Origins, Paintings and a Drawing

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 1, 2008, 8:35 PM
One side of my family has ancestors from Turkey and Mongolia.
This stems back to the Ottoman invasions of Europe and the Mongol invasion of Poland.
In those days, it was common to rape and pillage, and genes were mixed.
It's not impossible to find Poles with slightly Asian (slanted) eyes.
This physical characteristic has been much reduced through the generations, but what's left now is a slightly crescent-shaped eye and heavy upper eye lid.
I don't have this trait, but my brother has it, my father had it and some members of his side of the family have it.
So while I'm mostly Polish, it's nice to learn that I have roots in many places :)

In unrelated news, but related to my interest in Zen Buddhism, I've bought some really nice paintings from China.
Some are very large (65 inches) but the smaller ones I will be getting framed :D
Shipping costs more than the actual paintings.
All original, hand-painted. Here are some of the ones I've bought

Depends, they still have different grades of lenses. The Zeiss ZF line is really a professional grade line. The Sony lenses range from consumer to professional. In general, prime lenses will perform better than zoom lenses, I wouldn't expect the Sony-Zeiss 16-80mm to be spectacular. But the Sony-Zeiss 85 f1.4 and 135 f1.8 are most likely fantastic lenses.

Do you think the new Zeiss glass made by/for Sony is as good as the original?
